Once a process has been developed and well-understood in our small-scale R&D lab, scale-up happens in our kilo-lab. Using equipment common to both hemp
processing labs and pharmaceutical development facilities, we explore what changes are needed to demonstrate industrial feasibility. This involves tracking
input and labor costs, and determining what specialized equipment or skillsets might be needed to execute at commercial scales.
We aim to avoid the need for chromatography, a time-consuming and expensive last resort to address persistent impurities in bulk intermediates. Instead, our goal in scale-up is to rely on simpler filtration, absorption, crystallization, distillation,liquid-liquid extraction and related techniques to minimize costs and time.
